Waste Planning for the Future

The garbage, recycling, and harmful waste we produce affect the air, water, land, and our health. Planning how to manage waste is crucial. Waste management helps us find eco-friendly ways to handle waste, reducing harm to the environment and save taxpayers' money in the long run.

Every six years, Washington County must update its Solid Waste Management Plan to guide how we manage waste and to predict future waste amounts. We follow the guidelines in the Metropolitan Policy Plan created by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA).

On October 1, 2024 the Washington County Board adopted a resolution to approve the 2024-2042 Solid Waste Management Plan.
