Funding Update: Emergency Assistance Programs
Funding is available for pregnant people and families with minor children only. There is no funding available for adults without minor children in the home.
We anticipate funding for adults will be available July 1, 2025.
In the meantime, call 2-1-1 to find other programs that may be able to help with your emergency.
Emergency Assistance is available to eligible applicants who are experiencing an emergency situation such as eviction, threat of eviction, or utility shut-off.
The general guidelines for this program include but are not limited to:
- There is an immediate threat to health or safety.
- The issuance of emergency assistance will resolve the emergency.
- The household:
- must have resided in Washington County for the past 30 days.
- has income below 200% of the federal poverty guideline.
- has enough income to afford their basic need expenses for at least the next two calendar months.
- does not have available resources to take care of their own emergency.
- Apply online through MNbenefits.
- Complete a Combined Application Form (PDF).
- Return application to any of our office locations by email, fax, mail, or by dropping it off in one of the drop-boxes.

Other documentation that may be needed to determine eligibility:
- Proof of your household's current income including income from a job or self-employment, Social Security, child or spousal support, unemployment, etc.
- Proof of your current balance of all liquid assets such as bank accounts, pre-paid debit cards, Direct Express cards, etc.
- If you are requesting help with a utility bill, send a copy of your bill or shut-off notice.
- If you are requesting help with your rent, send a copy of your signed lease agreement and itemized late notice or rent ledger showing the amount you owe.
