Registration of a Marriage Officiant

Civil marriages may be solemnized throughout the state by an individual who has attained the age of 21 years and who registers as a civil marriage officiant with a local registrar in a county of this state. The county where the civil marriage officiant is registered must be endorsed upon and recorded with each certificate of civil marriage.  (MS 517.04)

In Person

You can file in person at the Government Center, Property Records and Taxpayer Services Department.

  • Complete a Certificate of Filing form
  • If you are filing as a minister, please provide a copy of your credential of license or ordination.
  • Pay the $20 fee. Cash or check only.

By Mail

  • Submit a completed Certificate of Filing form
  • If you are filing as a minister, please provide a copy of your credential of license or ordination. If your credential has information on both sides, such as a wallet card, please provide a copy of each side.
  • A check or money order made payable to Washington County in the amount of $20.00
