Aquatic Invasive Species Prevention Aid

The Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Prevention Aid, created by the State of Minnesota during the 2014 legislative session, aims to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species in Washington County. This program allocates funding based on the number of trailered watercraft launches and parking spaces.

Recent Update (2026)

In 2026, the amount of AIS Prevention Aid allocated is $143,718 in Washington County. These funds play a crucial role in supporting countywide AIS initiatives, including watercraft inspections, early detection and response, and educational efforts led by the Washington Conservation District.

A portion of the funding will also contribute to a joint inspection program with Chisago County through the Comfort Lake Forest Lake Watershed District.

Approximately $44,000 is available for treatment grants, and detailed results can be obtained upon request.

The State of Minnesota’s AIS prevention aid is proposed to be cut by 50% starting in 2027. Future funding for the county’s AIS treatment grant may change according to money allocated by the legislature.
