Self-Serve Recycling
Curbside recycling is offered in all cities and townships in Washington County. Contact your recycler or waste hauler for collection details.
Put recyclables in a paper bag, cardboard box, or reusable tote. No plastic bags.
Bottles, cans, paper, and cardboard can be mixed together.
Glass
Rinse container and replace lid.
- Glass bottles and jars
Metal
Rinse and remove lid. Foil should be rolled into a fist sized ball. Labels are okay. Do not flatten cans.
- Foil and trays
- Food and beverage cans
Cartons
Rinse container and replace lid.
- Juice boxes
- Milk cartons
- Broth cartons
Plastic
Rinse container and replace lid.
- Plastic bottles and containers – numbered 1, 2, or 5
- Yogurt tubs
- Clear clam shell containers
Paper and Cardboard
Empty and flatten. Tape, staples, and spiral bindings are okay.
- Books, soft covered
- Cardboard
- Magazines and catalogs
- Mail and office paper
- Newspaper, including inserts
Items must have plastic, canvas, glass, or webbing removed.
- Gutters and downspouts
- Separated beverage cans
- Deck chairs and tables
- Storm door frames
Items must have plastic, canvas, glass, or webbing removed. Disassemble items as much as possible.
- Wire hangers
- Pipe & rebar
- Bed frames
- Fencing
These items must be separated from other recyclables and dropped off in the drive lane.
- Electrical cords and string lights.
- Plastic bags and wrap. Must be clean, dry, and in light colored bag.
- Plastic yard signs and metal posts.
- Shredded paper. Put in paper bag, label, and staple shut.
Items listed below are not accepted as recyclables at an Environmental Center. Proper disposal methods are listed.
Include with food scraps:
- Pizza delivery boxes with food or grease
- Paper egg cartons
- Napkins or paper towels
Dispose with trash:
- Black plastic items (landscape edging, planters, frozen food containers)
- Ceramics or pottery
- Dishes or cookware
- Empty motor oil bottles
- Paper cups or plates
- Plastic toys
- Styrofoam
- Tissue or wrapping paper
- Window glass or mirrors
- PPE including disposable gowns, gloves, masks, and goggles
